KABUL: A suicide bomber struck a car packed with explosives at a military checkpoint in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, killing 14 soldiers and wounding several others.
According to Afghan media, a speeding car collided with a military check post in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar, which caused a loud explosion and destroyed the check post.
Obaidullah Shinwari, deputy head of the Nangarhar provincial council, told the media that 14 people were killed in the suicide car bombing. The officers belonged to the Civil Order Force, which is under the Afghan Army.
Meanwhile, a local Taliban commander has claimed responsibility for a suicide car bomb attack on a military checkpoint in Nangarhar and demanded that US and Afghan forces stop bombing civilians.
It should be noted that the Taliban spokesman had said in his statement yesterday that the United States was bombing civilians in violation of the peace agreement, while the Pentagon had earlier accused the Taliban of violating the agreement by not reducing violence.
