Hafeez Sheikh is removed from the post of Finance Minister

ISLAMABAD: Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has been removed from the post of Finance Minister.

According to Express News, the government has decided to remove Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh from his post and will be replaced by Finance Minister Hamad Azhar. A notification in this regard is also likely to be issued soon.

On the other hand, Additional Secretary Establishment Division Owais Manzoor Samra has been posted as Additional Secretary Finance while Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been posted as Additional Secretary Establishment Division.
It may be recalled that in the recent Senate elections, the government had fielded Hafeez Sheikh from Islamabad for the general seat, but he was defeated by PDM’s joint candidate Yousuf Raza Gilani, after which the opposition continued to criticize Hafeez Sheikh. Was being done.

The government had in April 2019 withdrawn the portfolio of Finance Minister from the current Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar and appointed Hafeez Sheikh as Finance Advisor. However, in December last year, the Lahore High Court ruled that the Prime Minister’s aides and advisers It does not have the authority to chair cabinet committees.

Following the court decision, Prime Minister Imran Khan, using his special powers, appointed Hafeez Sheikh as Finance Minister for six months under Article 91 (9). He could have remained as Finance Minister till June this year.
