HEC has announced schedule for the Law GAT The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has begun the registration process for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT), which is required for membership in a Bar Council.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) reinstated Law-GAT in March 2018, with the goal of ensuring adequate scrutiny and evaluation of a law graduate wishing to enter the legal profession.

Criteria for Eligibility

Individuals with a Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent from a university recognised by the HEC/Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) are eligible to apply.

Type of Test

The exam will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

– Pakistan Constitution, 1973 (Fundamental Rights, i.e., from the Preamble to Article 40; Parliament, i.e., Articles 50-212 of the Judicature).

4PPC Criminal Law– Chapter 2 (General Explanations/Definitions).
– (General Exception) Chapter 4.
– Offences Against the Human Body (Chapter 16).
– Wrongful restraint and confinement (Chapter 16-A).
– Offences Against Property (Chapter 17).
– Chapter 1 (Preliminary Definitions) 10-20 Cr.P.C.
– Chapter 5 (Arrest, Evasion, and Retake).
– Chapter 7 (Processes to compel the production of documents and other moveable property, as well as the discovery of unlawfully incarcerated prisoners).
– Chapter 8 (Security for peacekeeping and good behaviour).
– Section 10 (Public Nuisance).
– Chapter 11 (Temporary orders in circumstances of imminent nuisance and danger).
– Chapter 14 (Information to the police and their investigative powers-FIR).
– Complaints to the magistrate (Chapter 16).
– Chapter 17 (The initiation of court proceedings).

A minimum of 50% is necessary to pass the exam.

How to Apply?

Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements can apply through the HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC) portal.

They must pay a Rs. 3,000 test fee to Account No. 01127900567403, Account Title: Higher Education Commission, Bank: Habib Bank Limited, Branch Code: 0112.

When completing the application form on the ETC portal, they must provide a scanned copy of the paid fee challan.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is June 12, 2023 (4 PM PST).

Date of the Test

The test is scheduled for June 25, 2023.

On the day of the test, candidates must present the original fee challan as well as the original CNIC/original passport. They will not be permitted to access test rooms otherwise.
