Karachi Test Fawad Alam’s century against South Africa strengthens Pakistan’s position

The second day of the Test match is being played at the National Stadium Karachi. As Pakistan resumed their first innings at 33 for 4, Azhar Ali and Fawad Alam were on the crease with individual scores of 5.5 and Pakistan needed 187 to cover the innings deficit. Both the players showed responsibility and got the national team out of the difficult situation. Azhar Ali was dismissed for 121. Fawad Alam and Azhar Ali shared 94 valuable runs for the fifth wicket. Azhar Ali scored 51 runs.

After Azhar Ali, Mohammad Rizwan came on the field to bathe with Fawad Alam. Both of them continued to advance the score cautiously, meanwhile Fawad Alam scored his half century, Muhammad Rizwan was dismissed for 176, he scored 33 runs.

After Rizwan, Fawad Alam and Faheem Ashraf shared a 102-run stand for the seventh wicket, during which Fawad Alam scored the third century of his Test career while Faheem Ashraf scored a half-century. Fawad Alam was dismissed for 278. He scored 109 runs. Faheem Ashraf also returned to the pavilion for 295 runs, he scored 64 runs.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first but failed to score as expected against the Proteas. South Africa were all out for 220 runs. For Pakistan, Yasir Shah took 3 wickets while debutants Noman Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi took 2.2 wickets each.

In reply to 220 runs, the Pakistani players could not stay on the wicket for long and with a total score of only 33, 4 Pakistani players returned to the pavilion. Abid Ali 4, Imran Butt 9, Babar Azam 7 and Night Watchman Shaheen Afridi returned to the pavilion without scoring a run.

By the end of the second day’s play, Pakistan had scored 308 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. At present, Hassan Ali and Noman Ali are unbeaten on 11 and 6, respectively. Pakistan still has an 88-run lead in the first innings with two wickets in hand
