Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars 2022-2023

The Swiss Confederation grants Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships every year to encourage international interchange and research collaboration between Switzerland and over 180 other nations. The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students, the granting agency, chooses the recipients (FCS).

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Master & PhD

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are for young international researchers with a master’s or PhD degree, as well as foreign artists with a bachelor’s degree.

Types of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships

1. Research Scholarships

The research fellowship is open to post-graduate researchers from any subject (with a master’s degree or above) who want to come to Switzerland to conduct doctoral or post-doctoral research or study.

All Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, and the two federal institutes of technology, as well as the four research institutes, provide research and study scholarships. Only candidates who have been suggested by an academic mentor at one of these universities will be considered.

2. Art Scholarships

Art scholarships are available to art students interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Switzerland. Scholarships for study at any Swiss conservatory or university of the arts are available. This award is only accessible to students from a select few countries.

By the end of May 2022, the FCS will choose scholarship recipients for the 2022-23 academic year. Scholarships for the school year 2023-24 will be available online beginning in August 2022.
