ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has rejected the ECC’s proposal to import sugar and cotton from India

A meeting of the Federal Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan in which the issue of importing cotton from India was discussed. The federal cabinet rejected the ECC’s proposal to import sugar and cotton from India.

The Federal Cabinet said that India should restore the constitutional situation in occupied Kashmir before August 5, 2019. Until the restoration of Article 370, no trade with India is possible۔

The ECC had yesterday approved a proposal to import cotton in India at a lower price. An important meeting of the Economic Co-ordination Committee was held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Hamad Azhar in which permission was granted to import 500,000 metric tonnes of sugar from India.

The committee had also allowed the import of cotton yarn from India which could be imported till June 30, 2021.
